Mountain-Inspired Landscape Bridge Design at Dushanbe National Stadium: The Bridge of Nature

Project Background
The Bridge of Nature is one of five landscape bridges surrounding Dushanbe National Stadium in Tajikistan, inspired by the region’s snow-capped mountains. The client handled civil construction, while PFM was responsible for the bridge concept design, decorative structure and lighting works, along with technical coordination and structural verification.
Design Concept
Inspired by the Snow-Capped Peaks
Our design philosophy draws inspiration from Tajikistan's mountainous landscape. The Bridge of Nature features a profile shaped by the contours of snow-capped peaks, translating the surrounding terrain into the form of a pedestrian bridge.
Through its overall form, the bridge reflects the surrounding mountain landscape and connects Tajikistan's natural scenery with the built environment.
Engineering & Technical Development
Engineering & Technical Development — Verification and Corrective Detailing
During construction checks, local reinforcement conditions were found to differ from the design requirements, affecting the intended structural capacity in specific areas.
PFM developed a corrective detail using shim plates secured above and below the affected positions. This intervention addressed the identified local condition before the decorative structure works proceeded.
Structural schemes across the five-bridge program were also checked against relevant load cases, including self-weight, wind and seismic actions, with safety requirements reviewed as part of the engineering process.
Lighting Design
Lighting Design — Defining the Mountain Silhouette
The lighting scheme highlights the bridge's mountain-inspired profile while maintaining a balanced appearance across the structure.
Fixture positioning, lighting distribution and aiming angles were coordinated with the geometry of the bridge to emphasise its contours and support a consistent nighttime effect. Concealed cable routing helps keep the finished structure visually clean.
Completed Project
Lighting Design — Defining the Mountain Silhouette
The completed bridge carries the mountain-inspired form into the stadium landscape. By day, its profile defines the crossing; after dark, architectural lighting brings the contours into focus.
As part of the Dushanbe National Stadium Landscape Bridge Program, the Bridge of Nature reflects PFM's approach to coordinating decorative structure, engineering requirements and lighting design
Project Location: Dushanbe National Stadium, Tajikistan.
Key Capabilities: Landscape Bridge Design | Structural Design Coordination | Tekla Steel Modelling | Rhino Aluminium Panel Detailing | Curved Panel Fabrication Coordination | Architectural Lighting | On-Site Installation Coordination
